CALABASAS HIGH SCHOOL THEATER PROGRAM
Extra-Curricular Activites
Fall Play, Spring Musical, ComedySportz, Theater Arts Club, Murder Mystery Night, Improv Night, DTASC Festivals
Any student at Calabasas High School may audition for the Fall Play. Auditions are usually held around the third week of the first semester. Rehearsals for each play
Fall Playvary, but usually last approximately two months. Rehearsals are held Monday thru Friday after school and usually include one all day rehearsal (usually Saturday). The majority of rehearsals last between two to three hours a day. Performances are normally held in mid-November.
Spring Musical
Any student at Calabasas High School may audition for the Spring Musical. Auditions are usually held around the beginning ofsecond semester. Rehearsals for each musical vary, but usually last approximately two months. Rehearsals are held Monday thru Friday after school and usually include one all day rehearsal (usually Saturday). The majority of rehearsals last approximately three hours a day. Depending on the year’s calendar, performances are held either in March or April.
ComedySportz
ComedySportz mixes the thrill of sport and the enjoyment of comedy. Our team competes againstother high school throughout Southern California. With professional referees, fouls, and side-splitting comedy, ComedySportz provides a fun opportunity for students to get involved with our theater program. Any student at Calabasas High School may try out for the ComedySportz team. Try outs usually begin in late September. Practices are usually held about once a week. Games are held throughout the school year.
Theater Arts Club
The Theater Arts Club allows any student at Calabasas High School to participate. Meetings are usually held every other week in Mr. Garrett’s room. The Theater Arts Club plans various activities throughout the year. Regular attendance will provide the student with all the latest opportunities the theater program offers. Elections are held every year at the end of the school year. Anyone seeking to be elected must actively be involved with the theater classes and after school program.
Murder Mystery Night
Murder Mystery Night is astudent written, student directed, student produced show. A dinner theater that makes the audiences guess “who done it”, Murder Mystery night always promises to be a crowd pleaser. Many students also enjoy participating as waiters and waitresses for the two nights. Auditions are usually held in late November and performances begin in mid-January. Students acting in this production will be expected to meet for some rehearsals over the winter vacation.
DTASC Festival
The Drama Teachers Association of California (DTASC) holds a festival every fall (late October) and spring (late April). The festival gives students an opportunity to participate in a day full of activities and competition. In order to participate in the festival, student must be in Theater II/III or be invited to participate. Areas of competition include monologues, technical theater, and various group scenes (always including group drama and group comedy).
